چکیده

Pea (Pisum sativum) stands out as one of the most significant and productive cool-season pulse crops cultivated worldwide. Dealing with biotic stresses remains a critical challenge in fully harnessing pea’s potential productivity. As such, dedicated research developmental efforts are necessary to make use omic resources advanced breeding techniques. These approaches crucial facilitating rapid timely development high-yielding varieties that can tolerate resist multiple stresses. The availability genomic tools, such comprehensive genetic maps reliable DNA markers, holds immense promise for integrating resistance genes from diverse sources. This integration helps accelerate gains pea crops. review provides an overview recent accomplishments resource peas. It also covers inheritance controlling various stress responses, control pathogenesis disease-causing organisms, mapping genes/QTLs, well transcriptomic proteomic advancements. By combining conventional modern omics-enabled strategies, be significantly enhanced.

Translational Genomics in Crop Breeding for Biotic Stress Resistance: An Introduction

Biotic stresses pose a major threat to crop productivity. Crops are challenged by a plethora of biotic stresses, but only a limited number of key pests and diseases cause the vast majority of economic losses in a particular crop. Plant protection measures such as application of pesticides and deployment of resistant gene(s)/quantitative trait loci (QTLs) into cultivars have so far been quite su...

Sunflower Breeding for Resistance to Abiotic and Biotic Stresses

Due to a specific structure of its main organs (root, stem, leaves, and head), sunflower can be successfully grown on marginal soils and in semiarid conditions, and it is more resist‐ ant to abiotic stresses, than other field crops. Unfortunately, it is very sensitive to biotic stresses. In sunflower breeding for resistance to abiotic stresses, the greatest progress has been made in selection f...

Breeding for Salt-Resistance Using Transgressive Segregation in Spring Wheat

Hybrid populations (F3) derived from cross between four moderate salt-resistant spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) were assessed for transgressive segregation of salt-tolerant genotypes allowing germination and emergence at 350 mM NaCl for 30 days. The achieved Selection intensity was the order of 0.24-0.27 in these segregation populations (22-25 seedlings from 9000 seeds). Assessment of trans...

A novel lipoxygenase in pea roots. Its function in wounding and biotic stress.

The genome of pea (Pisum sativum) contains genes encoding a family of distinct lipoxygenases (LOX). Among these, LOXN2 showed eight exons encoding a 93.7-kD enzyme, harboring two C-terminal deletions and an unusual arginine/threonine-tyrosine motif in the domain considered to control the substrate specificity. LOXN2, when overexpressed in yeast, exhibited normal enzyme activity with an optimum ...

Breeding for Abiotic Stress Resistance: Challenges and Opportunities

Recent experimentation with transgenic plants has led to increased salinity tolerance, with emphasis on the areas of ion homeostasis, osmotic regulation and antioxidant protection. A case study of the major challenges and opportunities to improve stress tolerance in plants using salinity is presented. As different abiotic stresses are inter-related (e.g. salinity and osmotic stress), our abilit...
